The dial of the watch is sometimes the main factor why we as watch collectors are attracted to these beauties. There are millions of designs & many watch manufactures would spend millions in the design of watch dials to communicate with their consumers, the dials are like the face of a person, the first impression made would determine the sales destiny of the watch.

In the past, enameling, engine turning, skeletonising, engraving, etc were common practices by artisans who were engaged by watch manufactures to fabricate exclusive dials for their use. But with the age of the great depression & world wars, many of these skills were lost with only a few handful of small atelier remained to uphold the skills & expertise till the present times. In the past few decades, there was a great Renaissance from the big manufactures to incorporate these lost skills back into their watch design. And thus we are fortunate to relive the wonders of these fabulous art pieces in a small face of the modern day watch. And they really cost an arm & maybe 2 legs!!! =)

But for me, these new art pieces cost way too high for me to reach, so the next alternative would be vintage timepieces with special & unique dials which are just as rare & collectible as those high end art timepieces. In fact some are so rare, they are hard to come by & may cost several thousands to find a good condition example. =)
